Launch of a disruptive energy supplier

Utilising a strategic-creative process, we searched hard to find the unique and most appealing story for the sustainable energy supplier Bolt and drew up a plan to conquer a place in as many heads and hearts as possible.

Green power but not always green

The electricity from our power outlet is such an obvious product that we rarely question its true origin. This is not a problem for traditional energy suppliers since they can continue to sell their grey energy as green with foreign certificates. Our country, however, obviously becomes anything but greener from such green-washed power.

New, disruptive energy supplier

Bolt is the new daredevil on the market that wants to change that. As the first energy supplier in Belgium, Bolt made it possible and super easy to buy power directly from local, green energy generators. But how do you launch such a new, disruptive and truly sustainable brand in a market full of big players that haven't exactly won over consumer confidence? Or in other words, how on earth do you get Belgians excited about a product like energy?

Responsible brand positioning

In co-creative sessions with the client, we determined that the Bolt brand was already fairly visible in terms of look-and-feel just before the launch but that it still lacked proper and distinctive emphases in terms of brand strategy and storytelling. Together we sought to incorporate sharpness and purity to the narrative between the consumer, Bolt and the producer.

Energy from real people

To convey Bolt's unique and most engaging story, we quickly turned to the energy generators themselves. By bringing the real people on the other side of your outlet to the forefront, abstract energy became a tangible and transparent product again. And that it is green power is only logical: you can just see the renewable sources.

Bolt is bold

We extended this new, personal approach into a strategic communication and marketing plan. On that basis, we created videos, flyers, brochures, online banners and other communication materials. Adopting a bold approach was essential because as a disruptive brand, Bolt has to set itself apart from traditional energy suppliers. Bolt is the future of the energy market: definitely not a goody-goody but certainly not afraid to go against the grain.

55,000 customers in 3 years

In the autumn of 2022, our friends at Bolt blew out three candles. Today, they supply electricity to no fewer than 55,000 Belgians and 22 enthusiastic employees are putting their backing into Bolt's sustainable story. Today, this satisfied customer continues to call upon our analytical thinking and imagination skills, including for a service and retention strategy that allows Bolt to maximise its customer retention.
